An Internet Marketer’s List – Is The Money Really In The List?

An internet marketer refers individuals who have signed up to something they have offered as “their list”. These people subscribe to so that they can get something valuable from the marketer. Usually, marketers have an opt-in box or sign-up box which has been posted either on their blog or website. This box is where they get people to subscribe by offering something valuable for free.

Commonly, these free items consist of e-books, reports, tips and info, newsletters, podcast, teleseminar, e-course, and insider secrets.

Once an individual signs up to the list, they will get a freebie and in return, the marketer gets their email address. This is important because once you have your subscribers’ email addresses; you can then build a relationship with them, earn their trust, and eventually sell products to them.

Studies have usually shown that a marketer needs to get an offer in front of someone 7 times before they make a sale. This is why a list is such a valuable asset because you can contact those on your list anytime you want. You of course can sell products to individuals who have only visited the website once, but normally, there are people who go away once they are being offered a product. Once a marketer is able to get people on the list, they know have the ability to market more products to them the next time.

The list does not only serve as a directory where you can sell your products to people, but it also can be a very valuable tool to get feedback on ideas that the marketer may have. This can be done very easily by setting up a poll or a survey. Also, if your smart, you can collect their their answers and base your next product on that. Once you follow what your list suggests, you can get so many buyers.

The Difference between a Cold and a Warm List

Usually, once you give away freebies, you end up getting a cold list. This is because you have lured such people only for the freebies; it is up to you to find some ways you can keep these people interested. But before you begin promoting to these people, you should give value first. If you send out emails to these people which will contain a little of your personality and a no-strings-attached fact sheet, you can be able to build rapport with your list. Eventually however, you can start throwing in a little promotion. But there really is no need to rush.

Although it is true that a few freebie seekers will choose out of the list once they receive the free item, they really are not planning to buy anything anyway.

On the other hand, a cold list which has been prepared and are now eager to purchase from you can be called a warm list. Because you have taken the time to send them good information and build a relationship with the, you are more likely to get sales.

It is important to remember to keep sending value along with your emails. Once you start to just send promotional emails, you are abusing your subscriber list and even individuals who used to be happy with your service, will opt out.

In short, it’s smart of you to build a list, but only if you plan on treating them well. A good rule of thumb is that you should send out the type of emails which you would also like to receive.
